Egyptian Mau
History
The Egyptian mau is the oldest known breed of cat, dating back to 1500 BC, in ancient Egypt, the Egyptian mau cat was worshipped as a God and is inclued on murals in tombs.
The Egyptia mau arrived in the USA in 1956. Princess Nathalia Troubetzkoy brought three of the Egyptian mau cats with her from Egypt; 1 brown male named Jojo and 2 silver females named Lisa and Baba. The lineage name of the three cat was fatima.
Today it is still the rarest breed known but can be found throughout the world.
Physical Characteristics
The appearance of the fur look that of a spotted leopard and still retains the appearance of being a wild animal in the African Savannah. The Egyptian mau is quite muscular and can reach speeds of 36mph, making it the fastest domestic cat.
Mature male weight in around 10-14 pounds, with the female usualy 6-10 pounds. They carry 5 different colors, silver, brown, smoke, black and blue with silver being the most common and black and blue the most rare. Adult colors take up to 15 months to reach maturity. The Egyptian Mau head is round and slightly triangular. The eyes are large, usually green and almond shaped. Ears are large and slightly pointed.
Personality
People are attracted to the Egyptian mau because of their beautiful coats and their sociability toward humans and other animals. They easily become part of the family, often following them around the home or sleeping in the same bed, and are exceptionality gentle and friendly with children.
A favorite game between them involves using their speed and muscle in hunting type activities, but never to the point of hurting anyone or themselves.
Their reflexes and cunning exceeds the level of other domestic cats, attesting to their extensive lineage.
They interact well with other household pets, have a soft, soothing voice and enjoy playing in water and drinking directly from the faucet.
